A completed action at a specific time uses the preterite.
El lunes fui a la oficina en metro.
On Monday I went to the office by metro.
This is one finished trip on a particular day.
Mi compañera tuvo un problema con el metro.
My colleague had a problem with the metro.
The problem happened and ended as one event.
Mi jefe dijo que el despliegue salió bien.
My boss said that the deployment went well.
He said it once, as a finished event.
