For a set amount of time

estuve · viví

did it, for a set time· tap a form for the whole table

Say these out loud

Why it works

When the time has a start and an end, use the preterite.

Markers: tres horas, durante dos años, hasta las ocho, toda la mañana.

Estuve tres horas = the three hours are over.

Why not estaba

estaba tres horas

I was there for three hours

Leaves the three hours open, as background. A measured stretch is closed: estuve tres horas.
