How long it has been

llevo dos años

I have been here two years· tap the form for the whole table

Say these out loud

Why it works

Spanish says it in the PRESENT: llevo dos años aquí — and I still am.

Add a gerund for an activity: llevo media hora esperando.

Desde hace does the same job: vivo aquí desde hace dos años.

Why not he estado

he estado aquí por dos años

I have been here for two years

A word-for-word English copy. It sounds finished, and por is wrong for this.
